Who we are, what we doThe Yellow Door Choir is unique among choirs. We perform an eclectic variety of music; our repertoire now spans at least 19 languages. Our mission includes not only the sharing of music but also the profits from our performances with charitable organizations in the community. The choir takes its music into the community, performing at seniors' residences, and community centres. The Yellow Door Choir accepts a few invitations a year to perform at business and community events. Altogether, over 60 charities (full list here) have benefited from the choir's efforts so far, including The Shoebox Project, Independent Living, Rock Camp for Girls, Head and Hands, and AIDS Community Care Montreal. Our concert-goers always delight in the intermission bake sale, where all proceeds raised go directly to the sponsored charity. Ensemble performances are another of the distinguishing features of the Yellow Door Choir. Everyone in the choir — especially new members — is encouraged to participate. An ensemble is a small group of choir members who come together to perform a piece of music that they themselves have chosen. The music director offers coaching as required, and the final piece is featured in that season's concert program. |
